hello!!
it is what i’d like to call an exciting day, why is that?? because today, my new single, gatlinburg is finally available to be listened to by the whole dang ol world.
i started working on gatlinburg in August of 2025, after struggling for a few months to find a thematic center to the album, i finally felt like it had been found with the creation of this song-o.
gatlinburg is a song about time and places and the temporary nature of both. my family would visit gatlinburg and the surrounding area often when i was a kid, my dad has always been a big hiker, my mother loves nature, so it felt like a natural fit for the family vacations.
when i visited again in 2019, i still felt a draw to the place, but there was an emptiness as well, as though the place i once spent time passing through on our way to ice water springs no longer existed. i haven’t visited again, but i’m certain that it has even future deviated from the idilic dream that lives in my imagination.
the song “gatlinburg” is about returning, not so much to the physical places, but to the memories that we hang on to, even after their long gone.
along with the song, i am also excited to announce the music video which is available to watch now as well!
this video came from the concept of “everything is that feeling” and thusly, everything is gatlinburg. watch as mowmers walks you through the history of gatlinburg, through the history of all.
i am also excited to announce there will be a second visual to the song, which will debut with the album, this visual is created from pieced together family dv cassette tapes, found in basement storage containers, old milk crates, and closet shoe boxes.
in a way, the footage in these dv tapes shows gatlinburg and the mountains that hold it almost how i remember it, i am very excited for that to be out, but for now, you’ll have to settle for the cheeky video.
i really hope the new song is enjoyed, it is for sure a new direction for me in some ways!
